HOTLINE: 1-877-54-ABUSE (22873)
Tennessee law requires that any person who knows or has reason to suspect that a child has been abused must report the allegation to the toll-free hotline number or local law enforcement.
Remember, "has reason to suspect" means you have seen indicators of abuse, the child has disclosed abuse, or you have a "gut" feeling something may not be right. It does not mean that you are certain that abuse has occurred. Reporting abuse, or suspecting abuse, is actually a request for professionals to investigate further.
Taken from TCA 37-1-403
Failure to report child abuse is punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a maximum fine of $2500.00.
